Job Description

Job Title: Teacher of English

Job Overview:

As a Teacher of English at the British Council in Egypt, you will contribute to our strong reputation in English language teaching. The role involves teaching both adults and young learners, with opportunities for professional development and advancement into teacher training or coordinator roles. Full-time teachers are expected to work with a variety of learners, including over weekends and Saturday evenings.

Role Purpose:

- Promote and ensure high-quality teaching and effective learning of English.
- Provide a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience for learners.

Main Accountabilities:

- Plan, prepare, and deliver 25 hours of English teaching each week, tailored to diverse customer groups and learning styles.
- Monitor student progress and provide ongoing feedback to support learner autonomy.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to develop, evaluate, and enhance English courses and materials.
- Engage in continuous professional development to uphold high teaching standards and promote best practices in ELT.
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding and guidelines, including:
- Child Protection
- Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
- Anti-bribery
- Information management
- Health and safety

Salary & Benefits:

- International Mobility Contract (residing outside Egypt):
- Local Salary: 14,924 EGP (Gross)
- Sterling Supplement: GBP 315 (net) per month
- Housing Allowance:
- Unaccompanied: 4000 EGP
- Accompanied (1 dependent): 5500 EGP
- Accompanied (2+ dependents): 7500 EGP

- Local Contract (residing in Egypt):
- Local Salary: 14,924 EGP (Gross)
- Deductions: As per applicable National Social Insurance Authority rates
- Annual Leave: 35 days paid leave plus 16 public holidays
- Medical Insurance: Coverage for you and your family with the Council’s Group Medical Insurance, managed by Allianz.

Additional Information:

- Duration: 2 years, renewable for 1 year
- Contracted Working Hours: 37.5 per week
- Supporting Statement: Required as part of the application process.

Desired Candidate Profile:

- Qualifications:
- Essential: Bachelor’s degree (in any discipline)
- Essential: Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL

- Work Experience:
- Essential: 2 years post-certificate (CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL) experience
- Essential: Experience teaching relevant age groups:
- Adults General English (800+ hours)
- Young adults aged 5-17 (400+ hours)

- Additional Requirements:
- Right to work in the country (residing outside of Egypt)
- Egyptian residents with the right to live and work in Egypt are also welcome to apply.
- Applicants must have a passport valid for six months.
