Job Description

Position Title: Auto-Shop Helper

Job Overview:

As an Auto-Shop Helper, you will play a crucial role in supporting the operations of the auto repair shop by assisting mechanics, performing basic maintenance tasks, and ensuring a clean and organized work environment. This entry-level position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the automotive industry and learn essential skills for advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assistance to Mechanics: Assist automotive technicians and mechanics with vehicle repairs, maintenance tasks, and diagnostic procedures as needed. Fetch tools, parts, and equipment, and help with disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components.

2. Vehicle Inspection: Perform basic vehicle inspections, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and battery condition. Report any visible damage, wear, or safety concerns to the lead mechanic or supervisor.

3. Parts Management: Assist with inventory management and parts procurement by retrieving parts from the warehouse or suppliers, organizing stock shelves, and maintaining accurate records of parts usage and inventory levels.

4. Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work environment by sweeping floors, disposing of waste and debris, and keeping tools and equipment properly stored. Assist with routine shop maintenance tasks, such as changing oil, replacing filters, and cleaning equipment.

5. Customer Service: Greet customers and assist with check-in and check-out procedures. Escort customers to the service desk or waiting area, answer basic inquiries, and provide assistance as needed to ensure a positive customer experience.

6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, guidelines, and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety precautions when handling tools, equipment, and vehicles.

7. Training and Development: Participate in on-the-job training programs and educational opportunities provided by the employer to enhance your automotive knowledge and skills. Seek opportunities for advancement and career development within the auto repair industry.

8. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including mechanics, service advisors, and administrative staff, to coordinate workflow, share information, and support the overall success of the auto repair shop.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous experience in an automotive repair shop or mechanical environment (preferred).

- Basic knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and equipment.

- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labour and lift heavy objects.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.

- Valid driver's license (optional, but may be required for certain tasks).
