Job Description: General Counsel

About the Client:
Sovereign-wealth backed entity based in Abu Dhabi.

Job Objective:
As the General Counsel, you will provide legal and strategic advice to the company, ensuring compliance with local and global laws, rules, and regulations. Your role involves overseeing the Legal and Governance function, managing complex agreements, resolving litigation, and providing strategic advice on critical projects and deals.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide legal counsel to safeguard the company's interests and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Offer strategic advice on legal implications of new projects, deals, and investments to protect corporate interests.
Oversee the Legal and Governance function's performance, managing direct and indirect reports.
Develop and review complex agreements, contracts, and documentation to protect the company's interests.
Lead the resolution of litigation or court proceedings and defend the company against legal actions.
Manage vendor selection, ensuring compliance with internal standards and cost-effective legal services.
Partner with deal teams across platforms and sectors, managing legal aspects from pre-contract to execution.
Lead complex negotiations with potential partners and industry players, resolving legal issues.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Law, licensed to practice law in the UK, US, or analogous jurisdiction.
MBA from a top-tier internationally recognized institution (preferred).
15+ years of commercial law experience, 5 of which should be in the UAE.
Arabic language skills strongly preferred.
Legal knowledge in corporate/commercial, projects, project finance, mergers and acquisitions.
