Job Title: Data Scientist

Job Description Overview:

As a Data Scientist at the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (OIPE), you will play a crucial role in leveraging data analytics to support decision-making and improve efficiency across various units at AU. You will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, developing predictive models, and providing actionable insights to enhance performance. This role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in machine learning algorithms, and the ability to communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Engineering:

- Collect, clean, and preprocess data for analysis.
- Utilize data analysis and machine learning libraries to conduct in-depth analysis.

ML Modeling:

- Develop predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms.

Statistical Analysis:

- Conduct statistical analyses to support decision-making and solve business problems.

Business Intelligence:

- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings effectively.

Recommendations and Reporting:

- Translate data insights into actionable recommendations for various stakeholders.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management.

Continuous Improvement:

- Take initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and performance of various units through data analysis.

Support:

- Support other members of OIPE as directed by the Executive Director of OIPE.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum four years' experience as a data scientist or in a similar role.
- Strong programming skills in Python or R.
- Proficiency in data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Tableau, MS Power BI).
- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Project management experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

- Analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Advanced programming and professional report writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.

Working Conditions:

- Typically performed in an office environment with minimal physical effort.
- May require work after duty hours, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.

Supervision:

- Reports to: Executive Director of OIPE
- No supervisory responsibilities.
