Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Job Purpose:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to medical emergency calls, providing immediate pre-hospital care to victims. This role involves evaluating and stabilizing patients, administering basic life support, and ensuring the efficient operation of the ambulance unit.

Key Result Responsibilities:

1. Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to medical emergency calls and arrive at the scene safely.
- Provide basic life support to victims before transporting them to the hospital.

2. Patient Assessment and Care:
- Evaluate the nature and extent of illness or injury.
- Conduct patient assessments, including the interpretation of ECG.
- Administer medical aid, such as AED, CPR, oxygen, and prevent shock.

3. Ambulance Operations:
- Maintain and clean vehicles, medical, and communication equipment.
- Replenish first-aid equipment and supplies.
- Drive the ambulance safely, using GPS and observing traffic ordinances.

4. Communication and Collaboration:
- Work closely with communications officers, field supervisors, and other emergency services.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, using appropriate radio skills.

5. Patient Reassurance:
- Continuously reassure the patient en route to the emergency facility.
- Avoid mishandling patients and provide additional emergency care as needed.

6. Medical Documentation:
- Complete clear and accurate pre-hospital emergency care reports for all patient contacts.
- Provide copies of reports to senior EMT and relevant authorities.

7. Medical Procedures:
- Perform primary and secondary patient examinations.
- Record vital signs, use non-invasive diagnostic devices, and administer CPR.
- Conduct tracheobronchial tube suctioning, defibrillation, and administer medications.

8. Compliance and Training:
- Comply with departmental policies, safety standards, and infection control regulations.
- Attend continuing education and refresher training programs.

9. Vehicle Maintenance:
- Ensure the ambulance is in proper mechanical condition.
- Inspect and clean the ambulance and equipment regularly.

10. Scene Size-Up and Legal Compliance:
- Conduct scene size-up and follow established medical-legal principles.
- Comply with regulations on handling the deceased and protecting property and evidence.

Qualifications:

- EMT Certification from a recognized institution.
- Valid driver's license.

Skills and Competencies:

- Proficient in basic life support procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of medical-legal principles and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to operate medical equipment and drive an ambulance safely.

Work Experience:

- Previous experience as an EMT, including emergency response and patient care.
