Milk Production Manager

Position Title: Dairy Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards to achieve production goals while allowing time for facility use in teaching, research, and outreach activities.

2. Direct and supervise the production of dairy food products for marketing to the public and university food services units.

3. Supervise the Dairy Store Manager to coordinate inventory of products for retail and wholesale marketing.

4. Direct environmental and process sanitation practices to meet departmental, university, local, state, and federal standards.

5. Manage the hiring, training, and scheduling of student production employees.

6. Oversee purchases of ingredients, packaging, and supplies.

7. Oversee, research, and initiate the purchase and installation of equipment needed for the efficient and safe operation of the Dairy Plant.

8. Analyze needs and oversee maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings.

9. Act as a liaison between Michigan Department of Agriculture inspectors, industry representatives, and the general public to meet needs for retail and wholesale sales, promotion, and public relations.

10. Represent the University and the Dairy Industry of Michigan by participating in public relations and outreach activities.

Requirements:

1. A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the dairy industry.

2. Experience required to assess necessary technology systems at the dairy.

3. Ability to organize and communicate a team approach to understand goals and execute plans.

4. Broad knowledge of dairies and a strong understanding of dairy operations.

5. Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Science/Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related areas.

6. Four plus years of work experience, preferably in a Food/Dairy Manufacturing environment.
