Job Title: Engineer, Mechanical Projects

Job Purpose

The Engineer, Mechanical Projects is responsible for the planning, prioritizing, execution, and monitoring of pre-projects in alignment with QAFCO’s procedures and specifications. This role involves analyzing problems, conducting root cause analysis, and performing engineering calculations to achieve optimal techno-economic solutions. The role includes preparing tenders, evaluating technical aspects, generating high-quality deliverables, and supporting project execution. Coordination with multiple trades and customers is crucial to ensure smooth project operations. Additionally, the role involves compiling and contributing to periodic reports and assisting in cost control.

Key Accountabilities

- Project Planning and Execution:
- Plan and organize work activities, lead project teams, and liaise with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Execute engineering tasks for pre-projects, including root cause analysis and completing process data sheets with mechanical details.

- Engineering Deliverables:
- Perform engineering calculations using software and according to codes and standards.
- Produce engineering deliverables and conduct safety and environmental studies to ensure smooth project execution.
- Deliver pre-project work with optimal technical solutions and within the set schedule and cost constraints, adhering to Project Execution Guidelines and QAFCO specifications.

- Standards and Specifications:
- Develop and maintain engineering standards and specifications, incorporating lessons learned.
- Stay updated on technological developments and recommend opportunities for effectiveness and cost reduction.

- Technical Support and Coordination:
- Provide technical support to projects and operations, ensuring work meets quality and schedule requirements.
- Assign tasks, lead, and mentor contract resources to align with QAFCO requirements.

- Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Support the training of new or trainee engineers to develop their skills for independent task performance.
- Share knowledge and collaborate with fellow engineers.

Desired Candidate Profile

- Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Rotating/Package Mechanical Engineer, preferably in petrochemical or ammonia/urea manufacturing plants.
- Proven experience in developing datasheets, reviewing engineering documents, and managing the procurement and installation of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, steam turbines, gas turbines, and packaged equipment.

- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of engineering codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, IEC, BS, EN) and their application.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical package design and supply is an additional value.

- Skills:
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor project teams.
- Effective communication and coordination with stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using engineering software for calculations and design.
