Job Description

Job Title: NDT Technician/Inspector

Job Purpose

The NDT Technician/Inspector performs Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) using advanced techniques (ET, IRIS, Thermography, PMI, RT Film interpretation) and other inspection-related activities according to international codes and standards. The role involves identifying abnormalities in equipment, items, or parts and reporting findings to superiors for further evaluation. The position also includes supervising contractor NDT technicians, assisting the Lead Plant Inspector, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality procedures.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspection and Testing:
- Conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using various advanced techniques including Eddy Current Testing (ET), Infrared Inspection (IRIS), Thermography, Positive Material Identification (PMI), and Radiographic Testing (RT) Film interpretation.
- Perform inspections and report any abnormalities in equipment or parts to superiors for further evaluation.

- Supervision and Quality Assurance:
- Supervise contractor NDT technicians to ensure timely completion and quality assurance of NDT work.
- Assist in report generation, work-order time entry, and work order closing.

- Compliance and Implementation:
- Ensure all activities comply with QAFCO Occupational Health, Quality, Safety, and Environment procedures.
- Implement and adhere to the clauses of ISO 17020 in the area of responsibility.

- Technical Expertise:
- Carry out inspections related to stores incoming materials, lifting equipment, and metallography sample preparation.
- Demonstrate expertise in at least one advanced NDT technique.
- Read and interpret P&ID’s and isometric drawings.
- Understand and apply various NDT techniques including Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT), and Infrared Thermography Testing (IRTT).
- Recognize radioactive elements and associated hazards; follow radiography testing processes.

- Welding and Inspection:
- Understand the requirements for welding inspection, welding certifying authorities, and welder certification.

Desired Candidate Profile

- Education and Certification:
- Minimum Diploma in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Special training in basic NDT techniques with official certificates in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Radiographic Testing (RT), ASNT Level II.

- Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of direct and relevant experience, preferably from a large chemical plant, such as an Ammonia and Urea fertilizer plant.

- Skills:
- Proficiency in reading P&ID’s and isometric drawings.
- Knowledge of different levels of NDT and certification.
- Understanding of radioactive elements and radiography testing processes.
- Familiarity with various inspection techniques, including those for pipelines, coatings, and welding.

- Additional Skills:
- Ability to use visual testing tools for defect detection.
- Knowledge of internationally recognized welding certifying authorities and welder certification processes.
