Job Description

Position: Commis A - Pastry

Position Summary:
As a Commis A - Pastry, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting a variety of pastry items according to the hotel's quality and presentation standards. This role involves ensuring the proper preparation, portioning, and garnishing of food items, while maintaining food logs and monitoring food quality. You will work closely with the Chef and other team members to support kitchen operations and deliver exceptional dining experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

- Food Preparation:
- Prepare and cook pastry items according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines.
- Prepare cold foods and special meals or substitute items as needed.
- Regulate temperatures of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
- Pull food from freezer storage to thaw in the refrigerator.

- Food Quality and Safety:
- Ensure proper portioning, arrangement, and garnishing of food items.
- Monitor and maintain the quality and quantity of food prepared.
- Adhere to company and safety policies; report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to the manager.
- Maintain food logs and adhere to food preparation checklists.

- Team Coordination:
- Communicate assistance needs during busy periods and inform the Chef of excess food items for daily specials.
- Inform Food & Beverage service staff of menu specials and out-of-stock items.
- Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and motivating staff; serve as a role model.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others and support the team to achieve common goals.

- Customer Service:
- Anticipate and address guest service needs with a professional and courteous demeanor.
- Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.

- Physical Requirements:
- Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance.

- Other Duties:
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance; protect company assets and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Education: Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree in Culinary Arts or a related field.
- Related Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a similar role within a high-quality establishment.
- Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience required.
- License or Certification: None required.
